Your library needs Friends!
Important information about our Friends of the Library Group

Introducing Daryl McMasters, the new MCPL Friends of the Library President!

The Marion County Public Library Friends of the Library (FOL) is a non-profit organization that raises funds to help your library provide the equipment, programs, activities and special events that make your library and community cutting edge in the new millennium.

As a government entity, your Library is not allowed to hold fund raising activities and is held to a very tight budget.  This is where the Friends of the Library helps.  As a non-government, non-profit entity, the FOL can have the fund raising activities and events that provides your library with the monies it needs beyond the budget restraints.

These funds have provided the unique Reading Garden with benches, tables, umbrellas, heaters and many other items.  They provide snacks and crafts for some of the children and young adult programs, as well as equipment funding for items such as the new seventy two inch Smart Board used in many of the programs for toddlers through adults.

So how can you be a Friend of the Library?

Sign up and become a member.  Membership dues are a mere $10 a year for individuals, $25 for a family and varying dues for organizations based on number of members.  One can stop by your library and ask for a membership form anytime.  Watch for the annual Membership Drive and renewals starting January 1, 2020.

Plan to attend as many of the FOL board meetings as you can.  Meetings are held every other month beginning in January.  Methods of raising funds, planning those fund raisers, the current status of library activity and the distribution of funds to your library for needed items are discussed and voted on.  The next FOL meeting is scheduled for November 14, 2019 at 1:00.

Volunteer to help out at fund raising events.

Provide sale items such as crafts, baked goods, snacks or lunch box items.

Rent space at the FOL Book, Bake and Craft sales held twice a year.

Make a charitable donation.  Personal, or from you organization.  No amount is too small.

So be a Friend of the Library.  Be a Friend to Your Library.
