Congratulations to all 2022 Public Service Award (PSA) winners, who were honored during Public Service Recognition Week! Public Service Recognition Week is a time to celebrate the profession of public service and to recognize those individuals who consistently show their dedication to our community.

Thank you to the Public Service Awards Committee for helping make this year’s awards happen.

Craig Bruner: Innovation

Craig Bruner is the City’s Data Analysis Administrator and has been with the City of Hamilton for five years. During his time with the City, he has initiated multiple innovative solutions to improve the Department of Infrastructure and the use of GIS to record and update data. GIS is an instrumental tool used by our field crews who rely heavily on the accuracy of GIS data. Craig has implemented a continuous improvement program within Data & Analysis to ensure data is being updated timely and efficiently. Craig also implemented a valve exercising program which now directly updates the GIS as changes are made in the field. This is the first time in the history of the city this has been done. Craig’s expertise with GIS has also helped Public Works to improve the day-to-day operations of our field crews, especially with improvements made to the Snow Informer which reports where crews are working during snow events.

Brandon Weeks: Inclusion

Brandon Weeks has worked for the City of Hamilton for just over a year as a firefighter at Station 22. Whether the call is for a first aid check or a cardiac event, Brandon treats everyone he comes across with compassion and care. He has been described by his supervisors as an open-minded young man who has a knack for making the right decisions intuitively. Brandon, even as a new employee, already acts as a role model for other employees joining the Fire Department. Brandon is a very proud employee of the City of Hamilton who is always going above and beyond. He continually focuses on bettering himself and the department in any way he can.

Tori Bates: Respect

Tori is detail-oriented and well respected by her peers. She brings a positive attitude to work and she is kind to others. When Tori is in charge of a project, she keeps things moving forward and even keeps other people accountable. The staff member who nominated Tori remarks that “Tori does a lot of heavy lifting on staff reports and other projects but doesn’t put her own name on them. She does not get the credit she deserves!” Tori has worked for the City of Hamilton since 2017 and is our Legal Administrative Specialist for the Law Department.

Angie Getz: Passion for Hamilton

Angie is friendly, solution-oriented, reliable, and overall great to work with. During the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Angies was one of only a few people who came into the office while most people worked from home. Angie even covered the customer desk to support her coworker who needed to be home with her young child. Recently, Angie was one of the only people in the whole building to come into the office during a snowstorm to make sure that customers would have someone here in case they needed a birth certificate or permit. Angie is also a big supporter of Hamilton businesses. You can find her around our community most weekends volunteering at RiversEdge and supporting local businesses. Angie has worked for the City as a Health Technician since 2015.

Leonard Little: Own the Outcome

Leonard Little has been the Electrician II on-site at the Greenup Hydro Plant since 2017 and is responsible for maintaining all electrical systems in the plant. Leonard has gone above and beyond as the lead for the significant capital upgrades to the Greenup Hydro Plant. Leonard has gone above and beyond to be the champion and owner of this project. He schedules and plans work, coordinates technical information with the system supplier and field engineers, coordinates and directs the efforts of other city groups supporting this project, communicates daily updates to the entire team, resolves issues and answers questions that arise, and he does all of this while working on the front lines of the project. Leonard's dedication to this project is unmatched. Since the implementation work started in mid-February, he truly is owning the outcome of this significant upgrade.

Sean Harris: Sense of Urgency

Sean is an outstanding employee who displays a consistent bias for action and moves swiftly and thoughtfully. He has worked for the City of Hamilton since 2013 and is currently the Building Systems Supervisor. Sean shows everyone what dedication looks like by exceeding expectations in our delivery of quality services. Sean is always quick to respond and helpful. If a solution is not immediately available for an issue, Sean works to find one fast. His sense of urgency seems to extend beyond the immediate as he is constantly thinking of ways to help or provide a solution. In the past couple of years, even during shut-downs, it does not go unnoticed that Sean is always around and willing to help. Sean has a true commitment to quality that shines through. We are thankful to Sean for all his hard work.
